Linking gay marriage to pedophilia has long been a scare tactic of opponents, but generally the argument is made that allowing gay and lesbian couples to marry would invariably open the institution to other unions.

LOS ANGELES — There was no question Brandon McInerney shot a gay middle school classmate in a computer lab, but deciding what crime he committed proved impossible this week for a jury inundated with factors to consider.
The 15-year-old victim, Larry King, had been bullied and taunted for being gay. He had recently begun wearing makeup and high heels to school and flirting with his tormentors as a defense mechanism.
McInerney, 14 at the time, was beaten by his father and was described as a bright student who lost his motivation. His defense team said the teen snapped after King sexually harassed him.

Transgender activist Chaz Bono is speaking out for the first time against critics who say he should not be allowed to compete in the upcoming season of ABC reality show "Dancing With the Stars."
"It's made me realize I'm really glad I'm doing this, because America really needs to see this," Bono told ABC News yesterday outside the Los Angeles dance studio where he and his professional partner, Lacey Schwimmer, have been rehearsing for the show's Sep. 19 season premier.
Bragman, Bono's advisor says:
Bragman said parents should instead use his client's inclusion in the show as a teachable moment.
"Watching Chaz Bono dance is not going to make your kid transgender," Bragman told "GMA." "But what it can do is possibly save your kids life because young transgender kids, kids with gender identity issues, have a huge suicide rate and if they see one positive influence, one positive role model, this can save lives and that's why Chaz is here."
"No way he's going to back down," Bragman added. "This has really reinforced his decision to be on the show."

GLAAD Calls Out Chelsea Handler For Mocking Chaz Bono
Cher isn't the only one rushing to defend Chaz against a deluge of transphobia; GLAAD has called out comedian and "friend of the community" Chelsea Handler for employing what the organization is referring to as "transphobic humor to mock him." Details follow.
As an introduction to a recent episode of Handler's popular Chelsea Lately show, the hostess said, "The Dancing with the Stars cast has been announced and, this is season 13, it includes Chaz Bono, otherwise known as Chastity Bono [laughs] before she got her penis [laughs]."
The issues for which GLAAD has called out the E! show did not stop there.

Out comedian Fortune Feimster soon said that she was personally most looking forward to watching Bono on the program, saying:

This was immediately followed by jokes from comedians Bill Bellamy and Jo Koy, who has previously apologized for using anti-gay language:
BB: I mean who do you vote off? Him or her? I don’t know which one you want to do. [laughs]
JK: Does, does he/she have both parts? Like, like he’s like ‘I don’t want to use my penis, let’s use the vagina tonight.’ Like [laughs] I don’t know.
Is this the kind of language or endorsement of language a "friend of the community" should use? Is GLAAD right for calling these comedians out?
